Cooperation with Germany on Energy Sector
India and Germany have discussed bilateral cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, solar energy, clean coal technology and carbon capture and sequestration. Some countries are reviewing their nuclear power programmes. Reports indicate that the Governments of Germany and Switzerland plan to phase out nuclear power by 2022 and 2034 respectively. Italy has decided not to reintroduce nuclear power. The demand for growth in power generation in these countries can be met by renewable energy sources. This appears to be the reason to be the reason for their distancing from harnessing nuclear energy.

In view of India’s vast and growing energy needs, nuclear energy is an important clean energy option and will be pursued with full regard to safety, environment and livelihood of the people in the neighbouring areas along with other energy sources, including solar energy, as no single energy source would be adequate to meet India’…

India Signs an Agreement with Eurasian Group

India Signs an Agreement with Eurasian Group (EAG) to Enhance Cooperation in Areas of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing:-India signed an Agreement with the Eurasian Group(EAG) today to inter-alia enhance cooperation in the areas of Money laundering and Terrorist Financing. The Cabinet had approved the agreement earlier this month. The agreement was signed by Dr. Thomas Mathew, Joint Secretary (Capital Markets) Division of the Department of Economic Affairs on behalf of India.

A six member Indian delegation led by Dr. Mathew, Joint Secretary (Capital Markets) is attending the 15th Plenary Meeting of the Eurasian Group (EAG) on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism, being held at Xiamen, China.

Opposition set to take on govt in Winter Session

A determined opposition is raring to turn the heat on the govt on a range of issues including price rise and corruption in the Winter Session of Parliament beginning Tuesday.The Left parties have already decided to move an adjournment motion on the issue of price rise on which the BJP-led NDA is yet to finalise its strategy.The Left and the Right have been equally critical of the government's failure to provide relief to common man despite Parliament passing a unanimous resolution earlier asking for steps to contain price rise.

Some key UPA allies like Trinamool Congress have also expressed displeasure over rising prices.NDA is meeting on Monday evening amid indications that the opposition could evolve a common strategy and a better floor coordination on issues like price rise.It could also see opposition unity on the issue of corruption in the wake of new CAG reports on the issue as well as on the 2G scam.

31 Bills proposed this Winter Session

Indian Parliament will be in its Winter Session from November 22 to December 21, 2011.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Pawan Kumar Bansal has sought the support of the opposition for taking up these important Bills for discussion and passage.
The Opposition BJP and the Left parties have already announced that they will move an adjournment motion on the price rise issue.Media reports that Telangana issue, black money, outbreak of encephalitis in Uttar Pradesh and recent controversy over AFSPA are some other important issues to be taken up during the session.
