CM:SS CHOUHAN INVITES TEAM ANNA SHIVRAJ SINGH CHOUHAN INVITES TEAM ANNA MEMBERS TO DISCUSS JAN LOKAYUKTA IMPLEMENTATION IN M P Days after Team Anna members led by Sharad Singh Kumre asked Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to immediately pass the Jan Lokayukta Bill in the state on the lines of the one enacted in Uttarakhand, the Bharatiya Janata government has invited the members for a meeting with the CM on Friday. Kumre along with other member Vipin Kothari had sat on a 3-day fast to press for Jan Lokayukta in the state. The fast that began on March 13 was called off yesterday night after an official from the MP government invited Kumre for talks with Chouhan. The CM and Team Anna members would deliberate upon the implementation of Jan Lokayukta which provides for a strong protection for whistle-blowers. The team would also demand for effective action in all the complaints of illegal mining in the state.

Angela Merkel arrived for a surprise visit to Germany's Bundeswehr troops deployed . German chancellor said she wants to stick to the planned 2014 withdrawal. Angela Merkel as she arrived under the highest security precautions for a one-day visit to the German Bundeswehr base at Mazar-e-Sharif. Shortly after her arrival, the chancellor expressed her doubts about developments in the crisis-plagued country. US defence secretary in Afghanistan

US defence secretary Leon Panetta arrived in Afghanistan today on an unscheduled visit. His visit takes place just days after a US soldier shot dead 16 Afghan villagers and injured five others in the southern province of Kandhar on Sunday. During his two day visit US Defence Secretary is likely to meet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, the US commanders and troops in Afghanistan and Afghan government officials. His trip also assumes significance as there is escalating anti-American anger over the burning of the copies of Holy Quran and killing of 16 innocent civilians. Mr Leon Penetta has said the recent shooting incident would not affect the US and Nato strategy of a gradual withdrawal of troops by the end of 2014. Investigation is on in the US soldier’s shooting spree in Balandi and Alkozai villages of Panjawai district. Iran hold talks with permanent members of UNSC Iran has made a formal offer to hold talks with the five permanent members of UN Security Council and Germany over its disputed nuclear program. Iran’s top nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili has written to European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Marie Ashton in this reagrs. He has said the two sides set a timetable and choose a venue for the talks. Iran’s Official news agency, IRNA said, Jalili’s letter was delivered on Wednesday in Brussels for a constructive approach. There has been no immediate response from the EU. Talks with Iran broke more than a year ago. Western nations allege that Iran has been trying to acquire nuclear weapons capability under the garb of its disputed nuclear program. Iran insists that its program is for peaceful civilian purposes.

Indian Army bags one more Gold in South Asian Army Sports meet In Nepal, the Indian Army won one more gold medal in the first South Asian Army Sports meets which concluded in Kathmandu today. India won the volleyball match defeating Pakistan Army and increasing its tally to nine gold medals . It also won the silver in Football after losing to host Nepal Army 0-1 in the final match . The government on Wednesday said it wants to bring the bill to set up anti-corruption ombudsman, Lokpal, in Rajya Sabha during the first part of the current Budget session of Parliament. Replying to a notice given by Leader of the Opposition Arun Jaitley seeking suspension of the Question Hour to resume debate on the Lokpal bill, Parliamentary Affairs Minister P K Bansal said the government has studied the 187 amendments moved by Opposition and allies in ruling alliance since debate on the bill was adjourned after the House was adjourned sine die on 29 th December. Twenty-eight people, including 22 children, die in Swiss bus accident Twenty-eight people, including 22 children, returning from a skiing holiday died in a bus accident in Sierre in the Swiss canton of Valais, while they were travelling from Val d'Anniviers and were returning to Belgium. The bus carrying the passengers was registered in Belgium,the Swiss news agency SDA-ATS reported on Wednesday. The bus was travelling towards Sion, and hit a wall on Tuesday night in the motorway tunnel running from east to west and exiting at Sierre. Valais cantonal police initially reported only injuries. The bus was carrying 52 passengers from the cities of Lommel and Heverlee in Flanders. The news agency said two drivers were killed in the accident. Four Valais hospitals were treating the injured, SDA-ATS reported.

Rail Budget forward-looking: PM Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday hailed as "forward-looking" the Rail Budget which has proposed hike in passenger fares in various ranges in different categories. "The Railway Minister has presented a forward-looking budget with emphasis on safety and modernisation of the Indian Railways," Singh said in a statement. He said the budget has been formulated against the background of the Railways' responsibilities in meeting the demands of the 12th Five Year Plan. When in Australia  introduce Lockheed Martin technology that would reduce Spacing of Long Freight trains from 15 kilometers to just 2 km. This means on a 100 kilometer track where Three Freight trains Operate carrying 20,000 Tone payload each presently with this technology more than Ten to Fifteen Long Freight trains could be operated thus hourly throughput shall increase from 60,000 tones presently to 200,000 tones - 300,000 tones on single Meter gauge or Standard gauge track and it shall cost just Rs.2500 crores ($500m) for 10,000 kilometers track. This works out to just Rs.25,00,000 only or $50,000 per kilometer.This technology allows Australia to dispatch 7.2 million tones per day on one double section but India targets around 3 million tones daily loading on scores of sections. New SAARC Sec General Saleem assumes office

Ahmed Saleem has taken over as the new Secretary General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). Maldivian national Saleem, who replaces first woman secretary general Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed, took over the charge yesterday in Kathmandu. Fathimath had resigned from the post of Secretary General of SAARC last month over the issue of her controversial remarks regarding the arrest of Maldivian criminal court's chief justice Abdulla Mohamed. Sixty two-year-old career diplomat Saleem is the 11th secretary general of SAARC. "I will try to strengthen the SAARC process and will follow the footsteps of our leaders who envisioned this process", Saleem told reporters at the Tribhuvan International Airport upon his arrival.

Process for filling up 58 RS seats starts

The process of biennial polls for filling up 58 Rajya Sabha seats from 15 states was on Monday set into motion with the issue of notification. The Election Commission has already announced the schedule for the biennial polls to fill up the seats whose representatives complete their term next month. While the last date for filing of nominations is March 19, that for withdrawal is March 22. Polling would be held on March 30, as per the poll schedule announced by EC on Monday. The tenure of 58 members from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Rajasthan is expiring in April. Biennial elections to the Council of States from Bihar would also be held on the same date.
