Obama seeks support for military strike from XiSeptember 7, 2013
US President Barack Obama asked Chinese President Xi Jinping’s understanding of military action against Syria. Xi reportedly opposes military strikes. Obama and Xi met on Friday before the second day of the Group of 20 summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. The Chinese leader said that the two countries have been working closely in various areas and kept up communication and cooperation on major global and regional issues. He noted that China-US relations have maintained sound development and momentum. Obama told Xi the US welcomes China’s development despite some differences in opinion and his country is interested in China playing a responsible role. He indicated that the United States wants to discuss with China the nuclear and missile issues of North Korea as well.
