Joshi, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways has said that road transport is meant to provide mobility to the people and the goods for economic activity, social interaction, educational pursuits and a myriad other activities. Chairing a Meeting with CEOs of Automobile Manufacturing Companies and Heads of Vehicle Testing Agencies here today, he has said that there are two basic elements of road transport: roads and vehicles. Roads are only a mean for movement of the vehicles. The ultimate aim is to have an efficient road transportation system for which the roads exist. His ministry is trying to accord road transport the high priority it deserves. Nepali Congress and CPN-UML ask PM to resign With the opposition baying for Baburam Bhattarai's resignation, Nepal's ruling Maoist chief Prachanda on Friday warned that the country will plunge into catastrophe if the Prime Minister quits before resolving the vexed Constitution-drafting issue.  "It is completely wrong on the part of the opposition parties Nepali Congress and CPN-UML to ask the Prime Minister to step down before agreeing on the key issue of the Constitution," Prachanda told the news agency.  "Political consensus is essential among the parties at this moment as there is no representative body in the country after the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly," he said.  The 601-member Assembly, which had been extended four times since 2008, was dissolved on May 27 after parties failed to reach consensus on whether to adopt federal structure based on single ethnic identity or multi-ethnic identity.  Bhatta

Syrian troops have massacred 200 people in Traimseh

US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says she is outraged by reports of a new massacre in Syria and is demanding that the U.N. Security Council take action to stop the violence. She also called for an immediate cease-fire in the area of the massacre so that U.N. monitors can get there. Ms. Clinton said in a statement on Friday that Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime is deliberately killing innocent civilians as it tries to put down 16 months of unrest and that history will judge the Security Council if it fails to act.“History will judge this council,” she said. “Its members must ask themselves whether continuing to allow the Assad regime to commit unspeakable violence against its own people is the legacy they want to leave.”Although she did not mention them by name, Ms. Clinton’s warning was directed at Russia and China, which have blocked previous U.N. efforts to impose sanctions on Syria. Debate begins on Putin contentious law U.S. State Department expressing its concerns over Russia’s NGO and Internet blacklist law amounts to infringement in the country’s internal affairs, a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday. “Such actions can only be perceived as attempts of rude and unacceptable interference in the work of Russian state authorities and the sovereign legislative process,” Konstantin Dolgov, the ministry’s human rights ombudsman, said in a statement.“Moscow is not always satisfied with certain discussions and decisions by the U.S. Congress, but we’re principally abstaining from interfering with the legislative activity in the United States. ASEAN fails to issue joint statement Foreign ministers at a meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations have failed to issue a joint statement for the first time, due to differences over territorial disputes with China in the South China Sea. The ASEAN ministerial meeting was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Monday. On Friday, Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong told reporters they have given up adopting a joint statement.During the negotiations, the Philippines called for the statement to include a reference to the recent standoff between Philippine and Chinese vessels over shoals in the South China Sea. The standoff has lasted for more than two months. Cambodia opposed such a reference. The country chaired the meeting and maintains close economic ties with China.Hor Namhong said he cannot accept any country using the joint statement to handle bilateral territorial disputes with China.
Pak SC ask PM to open cases against Prez Zaradari Pakistan’s Supreme Court ask  Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf to approach Swiss authorities to reopen graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari, envisage  July 25 deadline triggering a fresh political crisis.Repeat  issue on Yousuf Raza Gilani, costed his job.Gilani was convicted of contempt in April and disqualified Gilani for five years last month after he refused to act on the apex court’s orders to reopen the graft cases. A five-judge bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa directed Ashraf to write to the Swiss authorities without any further consultations on the matter with legal experts or within the government. Will Kalmadai travel to London for games ? The sports minister on Friday shot off a letter to IOA, requesting the sports body not to facilitate the tainted Kalmadi administrator's visit to UK on ethical grounds.   In a letter to Randhir Singh, secretary general of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), the ministry argued that since Kalmadi is embroiled in corruption cases, IOA should not support Kalmadi in any way.
