India, US working together on Maldives: Nuland

Welcoming efforts of "all sides" to find a peaceful way forward in Maldives, US has said it was working closely with India in resolving the political impasse in the island nation. "We welcome the efforts that all sides appear to be making to find a peaceful way forward," State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland told reporters at her daily news conference. "We also welcome the ongoing dialogue among Maldivians regarding the role of a unity government in addressing these issues and possibly creating the conditions for early elections. EU lifts travel bans on Myanmar officials

European Union has lifted travel bans on Myanmar President Thein Sein and other top officials. The EU announced on Friday that it was lifting restrictions on 87 officials, saying it has seen historic changes as Myanmar moves toward democracy. The Myanmar government has stepped up reforms recently, releasing political prisoners and allowing opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi to run in a parliamentary by-election in April. Earlier this week, the EU sent Development Commissioner Andris Piebalgs to Myanmar to offer support. EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton will also visit Myanmar after the April by-election. The EU is considering lifting all the economic sanctions it has imposed on Myanmar since 1996.

US President Barack Obama took up with visiting Chinese Vice President, Xi Jinping, his concerns over the human rights situation in China which has experienced a recent surge in unrest among the Tibetan community. Shankar Das leads team to Pro-Am win at Avantha Masters 2012 Gurgaon, Feb 15: Two-time winner on the 2011 PGTI calendar, Shankar Das announced his presence amid a sea of global golf stars here today, by leading his team of Chandanjit Arneja, Venkat Sunderam and Simarjeet Singh to a narrow one-point victory in the morning edition of the Avantha Masters 2012 Pro-Am.  The event was played on a Medal format and the winning team finished with a score of minus 23. Star players take first look at DLF before Avantha Masters  Gurgaon, February 14:   The visiting players had their first taste of a full practice round on the eve of the third Euro 1.8 million Avantha Masters at the DLF Golf and country club. With many of the visiting players arriving into India from either Dubai, where the European Tour finished with the Desert Classic, and the Philippines, where the Asian tour played out the Philippine Open on Sunday, it was the first full day for them in India.  It was a foggy day in the morning with little sun but the players had a good look at the course, which was playing well. The fairways came in for some praise, though the players were still trying to understand the breaks and the speed of the greens.  Among the players who went out in the morning was John Daly, who enjoyed himself out there. Sticking to his stand on minorities, Congress leader Salman Khurshid has said he would ensure the rights of Pasmanda Muslim community. Addressing an election rally in Khatakpur locality last night, the Law Minister had said that even though the EC had censured him, he would ensure that people of Pasmanda community get their rights.
