CM distributes aids of Rs 1-Cr at Garib Mela at Dwarka Gandhinagar, October 10: In a extolling tone Gujarat ChiefMinister Mrs. Anandiben Patel today stated that Gujarat Government’s Garib Kalyan Mela (GKM) scheme has truly become an instrument for the poor beneficiaries of it to unshackle themselves from the evil clutches of the poverty.
The ChiefMinister said, like any assistancescheme of the government for the rural poors which normally provides them doles and equipments, the GKM scheme has become a path leadingtoprosperity and progress.
The ChiefMinister was speaking at the launching of the 7thseries of the Garib Kalyan Mela held at Dwarka. During the Mela, Mrs. Patel had distributed equipments and assistance worth Rs 106.45 lakh among 1894 poor beneficiaries.
On the occasion, the ChiefMinister dedicated newly constructed ‘Nand Ghar’ built at a cost of Rs. 12-lakh to the people and also laidfoundation stones for various developmental works worth of Rs 1434.06-lakh.

Cyclone threat: Tens of thousands evacuated along AP coast  Tens of thousands of people from low-lying areas of coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh have been evacuated as the state intensified preparations to face Cyclone Hudhud, expected to reach the northern coastline around Visakhapatnam by forenoon Sunday. Anticipating heavy rains accompanying the severe cyclone "Hudhud" that is likely to affect parts of Odisha on Sunday, the administration here is worried about Cuttack city's inherent problem of waterlogging. With the drainage system of the city undergoing massive renovation currently, the district administration has asked the local civic body to remain alert with adequate pumps to remove water logging immediately from the low-lying areas. 

Meanwhile, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has also undertaken a drive to de-silt the drains since Tuesday, a regular exercise that the civic body undertakes during pre-monsoon days.

Shankar Das of Kolkata (69-66-69-72) finished runner-up at 12-under-276 after returning a final round of even-par-72.

Indian College Basketball League to kick start in Indore
Indore, October 9, 2014: After a successful launch of Indian School Basketball League, Basketball Federation of India (BFI) in collaboration with IMG Reliance is ready to launch Indian College Basketball League (ICBL) in Indore. With about 480 colleges, 5700+ students participating, and hosted in 21 cities, ICBL is one of its kind national program which gives the basketball playing youth a platform on pan-India basis.
Day One of the Premier League will see the boys’ team from Islamia Karimia College playing against Acropolis Institute of Managementin the opening match, followed by the hosts IIST College taking on St. Paul Institute. In the girl’s category, eves from Renaissance College will be playing against St. Paul Institute in the first game. Hosts IIST will also be in action against the SIMS School of Management during the course of the day.
