Russia, China block US effort to halt North Korea fuel deliveries

Russia and China have blocked an American initiative aimed to halt fuel deliveries to North Korea. Washington accuses that deliveries exceed North Korea's annual ceiling for 2019. According to diplomatic sources, Moscow and Beijing said more time was needed to study the US request, which was backed by 25 UN members including Japan, France and Germany. A week ago, the United States, in a report, accused North Korea of breaching the United Nations-imposed ceiling on fuel imports by carrying out dozens of ship-to-ship transfers. The cap on fuel imports is among a series of tough sanctions adopted by the UN Security Council in response to North Korea's ballistic missile and nuclear tests.

Boris Johnson ahead to be PM Boris Johnson extends his lead in the race to become next PM @BorisJohnson In the United Kingdom, Rory Stewart was knocked out of the race to become Britain’s next prime minister today, leaving four candidates led by former foreign secretary Boris Johnson. International Development Secretary Stewart received the fewest votes in the third ballot of Conservative MPs and so drops out of the contest, while Johnson extended his commanding lead among his colleagues in Britain’s governing party. Former London mayor Johnson received 143 votes, ahead of Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt on 54, Environment Secretary Michael Gove on 51 and Interior Minister Sajid Javid on 38. Two further ballots are scheduled for tomorrow.

6.3-magnitude earthquake hits Papua in Indonesia DD News In Indonesia, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit Papua, in the eastern part of the coutry, but no tsunami warning was issued. The US seismologists said, the quake hit about 250 kilometres west of the town of Abepura in Papua province at 12:46 am local time, at a depth of 12 kilometres. There were no immediate reports of casualties after the earthquake.
