CHINA ENDORSES CRACKDOWN ON ROHINGYA SEPTEMBER 14, 2017 LEAVE A COMMENT ON CHINA ENDORSES CRACKDOWN ON ROHINGYA China endorses Myanmar’s offensive against Rohingya Muslim insurgents, Myanmar state media said on Thursday, as the U.N. secretary-general described the operation, forcing nearly 400,000 people to flee to Bangladesh, as “ethnic cleansing”. The Myanmar military offensive in the western state of Rakhine was triggered by a series of guerrilla attacks on Aug 25 on security posts and an army camp in which about a dozen people were killed. “The stance of China regarding the terrorist attacks in Rakhine is clear, it is just an internal affair,” the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar newspaper on Thursday quoted China’s ambassador, Hong Liang, as telling top government officials. “The counter-attacks of Myanmar security forces against extremist terrorists and the government’s undertakings to provide assistance to the people are strongly welcomed.” But at th...

ROHINGY CRISIS : EU ADDITIONAL AID OF 3M EUROS SEPTEMBER 13, 2017 LEAVE A COMMENT ON ROHINGY CRISIS : EU ADDITIONAL AID OF 3M EUROS European Union has announced additional aid of three million euros to address the pressing needs of the Rohingyas both in Bangladesh and Myanmar. Making the announcement, EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid Cristos Stylianides said, the funding comes on top of the 12 million euros aid announced in May 2017 when he visited Rakhine State. As more and more refugees continue pouring into Bangladesh, the additional funding will be used to provide emergency shelter, food, water and medical assistance to the Rohingyas. Like all EU aid, the funding will be chanelised through international NGOs, the UN or the Red Cross. The EU continues to call for full humanitarian access to the Rohingyas in Myanmar so as to be able to address the precarious humanitarian situation there and to ensure that it does not spiral into a crisis.
