HAPPENINGS REPORTED GLOBALLY   Radioactive water runs out of Fukushima    The workers wearing protective suits and masks work at a construction site (C) of the shore barrier to stop radioactive water from leaking into the sea at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant on August 9, 2013.  Radioactive water from Fukushima Leak caused by overflow:  Contaminated groundwater accumulating under the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant has risen 60cm above the protective barrier, and is now freely leaking into the Pacific Ocean, the plant’s operator TEPCO has admitted.  Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) – the operator of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant – has started pumping out contaminated groundwater from under the facility. India  Continues to show a positive change in momentum: OECD According to the Composite Leading Indicators (CLI) developed by OECD, India continues to show a positive change in momentum. India ’s CLI marginally rose to 97.7 in May which increased to 97.9 in June. The CLIs point to moderate improvements in growth in most major OECD countries but stabilizing or slowing momentum in large emerging economies. The CLI of China points to slowing momentum while the Euro Area as a whole continues to show a gain in growth momentum. The CLIs for the United States , Japan and the United Kingdom point to economic growth firming while CLIs of Russia and Brazil point to slowing momentum.
Tunisia’s ruling Islamist party accepts assembly suspension Tunisia’s ruling Islamist Ennahda party said Wednesday it accepted the suspension of the country’s National Constituent Assembly.  “Despite our formal and legal reservations about this initiative, we hope it will serve as a catalyst for political adversaries to sit down at the negotiating table,”  a party statement said. It added the suspension could lead to  “the formation of a government of national unity,”  AFP reported. The Assembly announced on Tuesday it was suspending its duties until the government and the opposition enter negotiations.

NEW DELHI, 7 August 2013  On the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week (1-7 August 2013),   UNICEF organised an event to celebrate the work of women from the remotest parts of India, who have been working tirelessly to support mothers in breastfeeding. Global News 7 08 2013 Iran’s Rouhani urges ‘serious’ nuclear talks without delay President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday that Iran was ready for “serious” negotiations on its nuclear programme with the major powers “without wasting time”. “We are the people of interaction and talks, with seriousness and without wasting time, if the other sides are ready,” he said at his first news conference since assuming office on Saturday. “Iran’s peaceful nuclear programme is a national issue… we will not give up the rights of the Iranian people,” he said. “We will preserve our rights based on the international regulations,” he added, in reference to Iran’s insistence that it has the right to peaceful use of nuclear power as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty. “As the president of the Islamic republic, I am announcing that there is political will to solve this issue and also take into consideration the concerns of the other sides,” he said.
