The Waste That Shouldn’t Be Wasted:
11 02 2015
By Aparna Pande
A survey conducted in Delhi, by Maitreyi college affiliated to the Delhi university shows abysmally low knowledge about eWaste disposal among the people. Most of the eWaste which is being disposed by the people, ends up in being refurbished and resold , inside toxic landfills or incinerators. According to EPA, only 15- 20% of the eWaste disposed in India, is recycled. Another aspect of the the problem is that reuse and refurbishment, which accounts for disposal of most of the eWaste isn’t formalised in India. The e-waste (Management and Handling) act ,2010 does not mention refurbishment or reuse as a part of the plan to manage e Waste. The only legal manner to dispose e Waste is recycling of the e Waste. Mr Shahi Pandit , associated with All India Kabadi Mazdoor Manasangh , tells us in a telephonic conversation that recycling being an expensive process the costs are met by the eWaste collectors, by selling a huge part of the materials to UN-formalised refurbishment facilities. He further adds that refurbishment being unformalised, does not protect the rights of the people working for the industry. The question that confronts us is – ‘What to do of our old computers, mobiles, calculators, batteries, DVDs, CDs, floppies etc?’ According to Centre for Science and Environment , these everyday gadgets, especially computers form a huge part of our e Waste, but the giants manufacturing them seldom have easy ‘take back’ policies. For most of them these services are non existent. International and national giants of IT sectors like Wipro, HCL, Nokia, Acer, Motorola and LGE provide take back services, but they are mostly available to uses from big cities. A large number of consumers ,who do not live in urban areas, cannot access these facilities at all.
In our country, we wasted nothing. Old towels were used for mopping and were worn down to ribbons. So we the old clothes and plastics and polythene. Every product had a life, which was made longer by refurbishment and inventing new ways to use it to its full capacity. Essentially very less was discarded. But improving technology introduced us to a new kind of waste ,which we did not know what to with – the e Waste. And growing prosperity gave us the habit of discarding things quickly thus traditional value of recycle of products needs to be revisited.

Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2015 – Leg 4
Vani takes centre stage on day 2
Kolkata, 5th February 2015: Vani Kapoor played the only under par round of 3 under 67 to grab the lead in the 4th
Leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour. Overnight leader
Sharmila Nicollet could not sustain the momentum and slipped to third
place. The INR 6,00,000 event is being played at Tollygunge Club,
Kolkata and will culminate on 6th February.
Hero Order of Merit leader Vani Kapoor started on a good note, carding a birdie on the 2nd hole. However, she faltered immediately thereafter and holed consecutive bogies on the 3rd and 4th holes. Quickly regaining her composure, Vani fired four more birdies on the 7th, 8th, 10th and 11th
holes to finish with a total score of 141 after the second round.
Trailing Vani by five strokes is Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi. Neha played a
cautious round, carding two birdies on the 2nd and 13th holes along with three bogies on the 1st, 7th and 14th holes. However, a double bogey on the 17th hole spoilt her score line, and she had to be content with a score of 3 over 73.
Hero Motocorp sponsored Sharmila Nicollet had an indifferent day as she played a birdie-less front nine with bogies on the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 9th holes. Her back nine ran a similar script as she carded two double bogies on the 10th and 17th holes with a lone birdie on the 15th hole. She is tied third with Kiran Matharu, with identical scores of 147 after 36 holes. Kiran carded two birdies on the 2nd and 13th holes with five bogies on the 3rd, 4th, 9th,15th, 16th holes. She also carded a double bogey on the 1st hole and finished the round with a score of 5 over 75.
Veteran
Smriti Mehra is placed fifth after round two with a total score of 149.
She is followed by Delhi’s Ankita Tiwana, Pune’s Shweta Galande and
Kapurthala golfer Gursimar Badwal, all tied in sixth position with
identical scores of 151 after 36 holes. Delhi’s Gauri Monga and
Panchkula golfer Amandeep Drall are placed ninth and tenth respectively.

Delhi Entitled to 2 MCM Yamuna Waters Everyday

Delhi Entitled to 2 MCM Yamuna Waters Everyday Not Khattar’s Gift
February11, 2015 (C) Ravinder Singh ravinderinvent@gmail.com
When there is Huge Amount of Water going waste to sea every year there is WATER CRISIS in Upper Yamuna Basin states particularly Haryana & Delhi.
Clearly Haryana [Punjab] was entitled to 9 BCM of water in Yamuna River in 1954 – 2/3rd of 13 BCM in Yamuna River but in absence of Storage Dams couldn’t Optimally Utilize Monsoon Flows and Store Surplus in Dams.
In 1994 agreement Haryana Entitlement due to lesser USAGE was cut down to 5.73 BCM, well over 3.3 BCM Less Allocation of Yamuna Water. Hathnikund Barrage to Partially Augment Supplies to Haryana was built in 2000.
Haryana Got 9 BCM Water 1954, 5.730 BCM in 1994 Use 4 BCM
Haryana
Was Entitled to 9 BCM of Yamuna Waters in 1954, 5.730 BCM as per 1994
agreement, but actual withdrawal is not even 4 BCM in absence of Renuka,
Kishau, Lakhwar and Vyasi and many more Storage Dams to be built on
Yamuna.
[When the supplies are in excess of 10900 cusecs the Punjab & U.P. to
utilise the excess over 10900 cusecs in the ratio of 2:1. Haryana Share in 10900 cusecs is 6780 cusecs. http://planningcommission.nic.in/reports/sereport/ser/wjc/wjc_ch1.pdf
1.
Whereas the 75% dependable notional virgin flow in the Yamuna river
upto Okhla has been assessed as 11.70 Billion Cubic Metres (BCM) and the
mean year availability has been assessed as 13.00 BCM. —-
Provided also that in a year when the availability is less than the assessed quantity, first the drinking water allocation of Delhi will be met and the balance will be distributed amongst Haryana, U.P., Rajasthan and H.P. in Proportion to their allocations.]
2. Raw water is being made available to Delhi from Ganga River (240 MGD), Yamuna River (310 MGD),
Bhakhra Beas Management Board (140 MGD). About 115 MGD of ground water
is being explored through Ranney Wells and Tube Wells of Delhi Jal
Board. http://goo.gl/K7BYdG
Delhi
is entitled to 0.724 BCM of Yamuna Water – which is 2 BCM per day or
125 liters per capita – Unallocated water is around 1.3 BCM – So
availability could be well over 250 liters per capita considering Delhi
Draws 1.5 BCM of water and Discharges 776 BCM Treated Sewage Water in to
Yamuna – Net Use 0.724 BCM.
‘Haryana alone can’t fulfil city’s water need’
IANS February09, 2015
Haryana
chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday said his water-deficit
state alone should not be banked upon for meeting the water needs of
Delhi.
“Other
states too should also come forward and pitch in with their
contribution in this regard,” he said at a meeting of the governing
council of Niti Aayog on Sunday. “Waters of the interstate rivers should
be declared national property and we should aim to achieve the national
goals by putting aside interstate disputes.” Delhi has been seeking
more water from Haryana for the last few years.
Storage Dams in Yamuna Basin Ought to Be Built FAST No Water Shortage. States To Utilize Their Own Potential Than Demanding Water of Other Rivers.

The Hemisphere PGTI Masters Day One
11 02 2015
Chiragh Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Pratap Atwal, Amardip Sinh
Malik & Ranjit Singh leaders on day one of The Hemisphere PGTI
Masters
Noida, February 10, 2015: Delhi’s Chiragh Kumar and Pratap Atwal, Mukesh Kumar of Mhow, Noida’s Amardip Sinh Malik and Ranjit Singh of Chandigarh shot scores of four-under-68 to be the joint leaders in round one of The Hemisphere PGTI Masters being played at the Noida Golf Course.
Chiragh Kumar, the 2011 Rolex Player of the Year, started the tournament with a bogey on the 10th but rallied with birdies on the 12th, 14th and 15th courtesy some excellent wedge shots. The bogey on the 18th was a minor setback as Chiragh produced three more birdies on the first, second and ninth. His longest putt of the day was the 25-footer on the ninth.
“This is a good start to the season for me. The conditions were windy and I didn’t start well but despite that I shot a good number. The greens are tricky to read so one needs to hit maximum greens in regulation here in order to have a chance of scoring,” said Chiragh.
He added, “I finished just outside the top-60 of the Asian Tour last year and narrowly lost out on my card. Nonetheless, I grew as a player during the Asian Tour season last year. It gave me a lot of self-belief and confidence.”
Mukesh Kumar, the runner-up at last week’s event in Panchkula, landed it within five feet on five occasions to set up birdies. He also converted a 15-footer for birdie on the eighth. Mukesh, however, dropped two bogeys as a result of missing short putts on the 11th and 16th.
“My hitting was really good today but I continued to struggle with the putter just like last week. I created many opportunities for myself by landing it close especially on the second-nine,” said Mukesh.
Rookie Pratap Atwal’s 68 featured an eagle, three birdies and a bogey. Atwal made his first birdie of the day after recovering from the bunker on the 14th before dropping a shot on the 16th. He then sank an 18-footer for eagle on the first. Pratap landed it within five feet for birdies on the second and fourth.
Atwal said, “I didn’t hit it well on the first-nine but then kept it on the fairways on the second-nine. I made some good par saves and putted well from the first to the ninth. I played my first event as a professional last week therefore felt the nerves. But I feel the nerves have settled down this week as I’m playing better.”
Ranjit Singh and Amardip Sinh Malik also shot scores of 68 to hold the joint lead. While Ranjit posted an error-free 68, Amardip made an eagle, three birdies and a bogey.
Lucknow’s Sanjay Kumar, Bangalore’s Chikkarangappa, Gurgaon-based Digvijay Singh and Pradyumna Barbora, Delhi’s Bhanu Pratap Singh, Noida’s Vikrant Chopra and Chandigarh’s Harendra Gupta were tied sixth at three-under-69.

Boost Shipping to Boost Growth
PROPOSAL TO GOVERNMENT OF INDIA FOR UNION BUDGET DATED 9 TH FEBRUARY 2015″
Though
development of Maritime Transport Industry , Shipping Industry and
Maritime Industry is one of the biggest ideas for boosting economic
development of the country, somehow the governments have not been given
the thrust it deserves for decades. Today, the 7,500-km coastline of the
country is grossly under utilized. This budget gives an opportunity for
the government to lay a strong foundation for an all round development
of this sector, including ports and inland and coastal shipping, and
very importantly creating an atmosphere for promotion of MERHANT NAVY
amongst youth by granting a liberal annual budget outlay and encouraging
private participation along with foreign participation.
We need your support to reach up to Government and its respective authorities.
We always get high value cooperation from all national press / media, expecting this time too.
Thanking you,
With warm regards,
Rajeev

NBA Press Note dated 10th Feb, 2015
11 02 2015
Popovich earns win No. 1,000 as Spurs get past Pacers
INDIANAPOLIS: San
Antonio rallied from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit and got an
18-foot baseline jumper from Marco Belinelli with 2.1 seconds left to
give Popovich a milestone 95-93 victory at Indiana. Gregg Popovich’s grand plan has produced plenty of wins. The Spurs made it an even 1,000 for him on Monday night. Only
two coaches, Phil Jackson and Pat Riley, reached 1,000 wins faster than
Popovich. Only one other coach, Jerry Sloan, achieved the feat with one
team. Sloan won 1,127 games with Utah. Popovich is 1,000-462 in 19 NBA
seasons, all with San Antonio.
After Sunday night’s loss in
Toronto, he deactivated Manu Ginobili and carefully tracked the minutes
of Parker and Tim Duncan. Parker and Duncan, who had 15 points and eight
rebounds, each played 30 minutes, 23 seconds and didn’t enter the
fourth quarter until just before the closing run began.
Heat rally to top Knicks, Thunder beat Nuggets
Chalmers,
Norris Cole and Shabazz Napier combined to give Miami 35 points, 17
assists and only five turnovers from the guard spot, coming up big with
Dwyane Wade still sidelined by his strained hamstring. Luol Deng scored
12 and Chris Andersen added 10 for Miami, plus had a nifty
behind-the-back pass to set up Bosh for a basket as Miami pulled away.
Anthony scored 26 points for the Knicks, who became the first NBA team
this season to be guaranteed of finishing with a sub-.500 record.
DENVER: The
reigning MVP scored 40 points, Russell Westbrook had 26 and the
Oklahoma City Thunder beat Denver 124-114 on Monday night to hand the
Nuggets their sixth loss in a row. Kevin
Durant’s shots kept dropping, and it didn’t seem to matter whether he
was off-balance, falling away or putting the ball up in traffic. The
Nuggets tried to slow down Durant with double teams and by picking him
up as soon as he got near the 3-point line, but it didn’t do much good.
Durant matched a career best by connecting on seven 3-pointers and
finished 13 of 19 from the floor. Mitch McGary added 17 points and 10
rebounds for the Thunder.
The
Nuggets, who have lost 13 of 14, were led by Wilson Chandler’s 23
points. Kenneth Faried and Lawson each added 22 for Denver, which also
lost its sixth straight at home – its longest home skid since dropping
seven in a row at the Pepsi Center from Feb. 6 to March 2, 2003
Results:
Oklahoma
City Thunder- 124 beat Denver Nuggets- 114, Los Angeles Clippers- 115
beat Dallas Mavericks- 98, Utah Jazz- 100 beat New Orleans Pelicans- 96,
Atlanta Hawks- 117 beat Minnesota Timberwolves- 105, Milwaukee Bucks-
103 beat New York Knicks- 95, Washington Wizards- 96 beat Orlando Magic-
80, Golden State Warriors- 89, beat Philadelphia 76ers- 84, San Antonio
