With each passing day, more and more political activists are coming forward to the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi to contribute to the party’s growing wave in the national capital ahead of the February 7 assembly elections.
On Friday, the Delhi state unit of Peace Party of India announced its merger into the AAP in presence of party leaders Sanjay Singh and Dilip Pandey.
Delhi state unit president of the Peace Party, Master Sher Mohammad Khan led around 300 workers, including top office bearers, in joining the AAP at its New Delhi office.
Among those who joined the AAP on Friday were – Nazakat Ali state general secretary, Fakruddin Saifi state vice-president, advocate Brij Kishore general secretary of the UP state unit and Habib Malik from Delhi state committee.
Peace Party candidates who had contested the 2013 assembly elections of Delhi pledged their support to the AAP candidates, particularly in East and North-East Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay Singh said the AAP was getting calls from across Delhi from political activists who wanted to join the party ahead of the elections, but the AAP has a procedure of allowing entry into its fold.
He said those willing to join the AAP have to provide a declaration that they will adhere to the party agenda and have no criminal or corruption cases pending against them.
BJP advertisement insulted Anna Hazare
Asked to respond on the BJP’s advertisement which appeared in the newspapers on Friday, Sanjay Singh replied :“On the martyrdom day of father of the nation, the BJP has indulged in the worst political opportunism by showing utter disrespect for Anna Hazare ji. This party has no respect for either the respected nor for Indian traditions.”
"The AAP wants to know whether this obnoxious advertisement was sent for approval of the Election Commission before it was sent for publication," he said.
