BIODIVERSITY GALA
New Delhi: The second day of the 7th CMS VATAVARAN
had an exciting line up of film screenings, book launches, sessions, special
film sessions and many more. Participants from more than 60 schools and
colleges thronged the IGNCA Lawns, where the film festival is being held.
The six main venues in this festival hosted various film screenings and
sessions today. In the International Screen, 12 nominated International films
were screened. The ONGC Lawn hosted film screenings and open forums with
film makers & experts. Films such as Corbett’s Legacy by Naresh Bedi were
screened at the ONGC Lawn today. Important issues related to forest, mountain,
marine issues were discussed at the Japan Lawn with experts from Wildlife
Institute of India, UNDP, Centre for Environment Education. The venue will be
hosting similar thematic sessions over the next three days that will bring
together well known people from the field of journalism, filmmaking,
environment and wildlife conservation and more.
UNDP & GIZ Lawn for
Coastal and Marine Biodiversity hosted an important session today that brought
about the India’s National Biodiversity Target. The session was moderated by
Lima Rosalind, a wildlife conservationist. CMS Lawn had various workshops on
filmmaking with documentary filmmakers such as Rita Banerji, Ian Thomas Ash, S
Nallamuthu and Sanjay Barnela. Young Champions Lawn a special lawn dedicated section solely for the youth hosted
a book launch of The Tiger of Taboo Valley by Ranjit Lal with interactions with
school children. The Young Champions Lawn also hosted a special film session
with forthcoming film- Kalpvriksh, starring Shabana Azmi amidst excited young
audiences, followed by an interaction.
The second day of the biodiversity gala also featured exhibitions,
music festival, performances by Bloom Public School and Sri Venkateshwara
College. Participants also thronged the food court and green haat.
Over the next three days, the film festival and forum will feature
an important session on coastal areas of India- The Challenged Coast of India-Collaboration
for a Sustainable Future with eminent speakers such as Prabir Kumar Banerjee (Pondy CAN), Sunita Narain, Director,
Centre for Science and Environment; Sudarshan Rodriquez (TISS). The session
will be moderated by Dr. Prannoy Roy, Executive Co- Chairman of NDTV. A gala
film screening of Jal by Girish Malik will be held on Feb 02, 2014. The cast of
the film- Purab Kohli and Tanishta Chatterjee will be present for an
interactive session. Among other important highlights, Sunita Narain’s book, First
Food: A Taste of India’s Biodiversity will be launched at the film festival. The
7th CMS VATAVARAN will also host a grand award night (Sunday Feb 2,
7-9 pm) and will be presenting 33 awards to the winning filmmakers.
Mr. Amol Palekar, veteran
actor and Jury Chairperson of 7th CMS VATAVARAN will be present on
Feb 03, 2014 for an interactive session- Meet the 2014 CMS VATAVARAN Jury. The
last day will also be screening all the award winning films of the festival.
