Egypt extends state of emergency
13092013
Egypt has extended the state of emergency by another two months. The night long curfew in 14 Governorates or states will continue to be in place. Egyptian President Adly Mansour’s office said that the step has been taken in the wake of continuing turmoil in the country and the assaults on public and private property, as well as, killings by extremist groups. Emergency was clamped last month in the country after hundreds died during the clearing of protest camps in support of the ousted President, Mohammed Mursi. The Egyptian Government has, by and large, been able to contain the violence in the recent past, but a failed assassination attempt on the Interior Minister and attacks by the Islamist militants in Sinai over security forces, has raised concerns about the security situation in the country.
