Hi Naresh,

Lakhs of Indians, including you, took action to stop violence against women over the last 3 weeks.
On Change.org, more than 470,000 people from across the world signed several petitions asking the Government of India to take concrete steps and stop violence against women.
Thanks to public pressure
  • The Delhi Government set up fast track courts.
  • The Union Government set up Justice Verma commission to provide recommendations for speedier justice and punishment in sexual assault cases.
  • The Chief Justice of India wrote to all High Courts advising them to set up fast track courts specifically for cases of violence against women.
While public pressure has forced the Government to take some steps, there is a lot left to be done. Some people have already started campaigns on Change.org to stop violence against women.
Here are some of the campaigns you might be interested in supporting.
Kavita Krishnan started a petition asking for the abolition of the “two finger” test. Kavita feels this practice of inserting two fingers in the vagina of a rape survivor to check if she is ‘habituated to sex’ is nothing but medical re-rape that should not have any impact on the outcome of a rape case. Sign her petition to Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.

Rachit Barak is outraged that MTV’s facebook page puts up images of female body parts and asks users to guess the model/actress. Rachit, feels that MTV is commodifying women. Sign his petition asking MTV to stop the “guess who” posts.

Anoop, a Palam Vihar resident in Gurgaon, knows that dark alleys and streets are not safe for women. He wants streets lights in Palam Vihar to ensure safety and reduce crime for the residents of the area. Tired of false promises from local authorities, he has started a petition asking the Chief Secretary of Haryana to install street-lights in Palam Vihar.

Thank you for taking action,
