EU lifts travel bans on Myanmar officials
European Union has lifted travel bans on Myanmar President Thein Sein and other top officials.
The EU announced on Friday that it was lifting restrictions on 87 officials, saying it has seen historic changes as Myanmar moves toward democracy.
The Myanmar government has stepped up reforms recently, releasing political prisoners and allowing opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi to run in a parliamentary by-election in April.
Earlier this week, the EU sent Development Commissioner Andris Piebalgs to Myanmar to offer support.
EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton will also visit Myanmar after the April by-election.
The EU is considering lifting all the economic sanctions it has imposed on Myanmar since 1996.
