SCO restrains military intervention in Syria,Middle East
Chinese President Hu Jintao and Russian President Vladimir Putin took part, while Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attended as an observer.The joint statement says the Shanghai group is against military interference in the affairs of the Middle East and North Africa. It also rejects any enforced handover of power or unilateral sanctions, and stresses the need to resolve problems with dialogue.
In an apparent attempt to counter Israel's threat of a military attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, the statement says the use of force could threaten stability in the region and have an unpredictable impact.The organization has agreed to invite Afghanistan as an observer to future summits.
Political Analysts have an opinion that the Shanghai group is likely to increase its involvement in Afghanistan toward late 2014, when US-led multinational troops are due to withdraw from the country.Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has expressed hope that a regional bloc made up of China, Russia and Central Asian countries will increase its influence as a counterweight to the United States and Europe.
Ahmadinejad was speaking at a summit meeting of the bloc, known as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, on Thursday in Beijing. He attended as an observer.He accused the US and European countries of trying to prevent the rapid development of Asia in a way that is reminiscent of the colonial period.
The Iranian president said the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has every potential to support the fair development of all countries involved.
He also proposed that in the interest of promoting regional development, the member nations stop their reliance on the dollar and the euro, and start building a financial system based on a different currency.Media agencies
