Putin signs anti-protest law fine upto 300,000 roubles

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a bill on Friday that will significantly increase fines for people taking part in protests that violate public order. The fines will leap from 1,000 roubles to 300,000 roubles, or about 9,100 dollars, an average annual salary. The organizers of rallies could be fined up to 1 million roubles.

Opposition leaders question this enactment of  law and say Putin rushed the law through so it would be in place before a demonstration against his rule, planned for next Tuesday.
