Based on a tradition of cultural exchange between the German, European and Indian film industries, it aims to further the understanding, possibilities of networking and co-operation between European and Indian filmmakers. A SUNDAY IN THE COUNTRY was initiated in 1995 by the EUROPEAN FILM ACADEMY (Berlin) and THE OPEN SOCIETY INSTITUTE (run by the SOROS Foundation, New York).
