Cong, BJP trying to rope in independent, BSP, UKD MLAs as equipoise results in state of  Uttarakhand  in Northern India,the governance power rest in independent, BSP, UKD MLAs.


Branding parties having fallen short of majority, rival contenders for power Congress and BJP on Wednesday began efforts to rope in potential allies to form a government in Uttarakhand with their leaders speaking to BSP, independent and Uttarakhand Kranti Dal MLAs over phone. 
 

Congress has emerged as the single largest party with 32 seats in the 70-member House, BJP finished one less seat in a cliff-hanger contest for the state assembly polls.BSP has won three seats, Uttarkhand Kranti Dal one and independents three.Senior Congress leader Vijay Bahuguna claimed to reporters in Dehradun that some independents have promised support to Congress.
He said the party leaders have spoken to the independent MLAs and some BSP legislators over phone.

Asked if the party has secured the support of independents, Baghuguna said "yes, we have. We have because a majority of them are from Congress background. They have already pledged their support and we are in touch with others also."

To a question on the total number of MLAs who would back Congress' bid to form government he said "I think it will touch about 38".

Bahuguna said a meeting of CLP has been convened today which will adopt a resolution authorizing party President Sonia Gandhi to nominate a CM and "she will do that in a day or two"

A delegation of state Congress party leaders held talks with Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on the issue of formation of new government.


Khanduri submits his resignation to Uttarakhand governor
Uttarakhand Chief Minister B.C. Khanduri tendered his resignation to Governor Margaret Alva at the Raj Bhavan in Dehradun on Wednesday evening.
Governor Alva lauded Khanduri for serving people of the state with great competence and integrity.

"Khanduriji was a very good chief minister, who served the state and the people. It is with great regret that I am accepting your resignation," she said.

Khanduri on his part thanked Governor Alva for her guidance and support during his tenure as the chief minister.

"Well, I have known the Governor for a long time. It has been my good luck that I have also been in the Parliament with her. I am not saying this just for formality. I am very grateful for the guidance and support provided by you (Governor). I will always cherish my association with you madam (Governor). It has really been a great pleasure being guided by you," he said.

The verdict of Uttarakhand assembly polls has thrown up an indecisive mandate.

Both Congress and the BJP are in the line to form the government in the state. Congress with 32 seats has a one-seat advantage over the BJP
