22 prominent poets, novelists to get Sahitya Akademi award

Eminent Bengali poet Manindra Gupta, Assemese poet late Kabin Phukan, Kashmiri poet Naseem Shafaie, Urdu poet Khaleel Mamoon, Hindi Novelist Kashinath Singh, Odia novelist Kalpanakumari Devi and Kannada novelist Gopal Krishna Pai are among the 22 prominent poets and novelists who have been selected for the Sahitya Akademi award for this year.

A release by the Akademi said that seven novels, eight books of poetry, three of essays, one each of short stories, narrative history, biography and a play have won the Sahitya Akademi award.

Mr. Ramachandra Guha for his book of narrative history in English, Mohan Parmar for his Gujarati book on short stories and Mohan Gehani's for his Sindhi book of plays, have also been selected for the award.

The award carrying a cash prize of one lakh rupees, an engraved copper plaque and a shawl will be presented to the authors at a special function to be held in New Delhi on 14th February next year.
