Food Security Bill in Parliament today
The National Food Security Bill will be introduced in Parliament on Wednesday; the
Union Cabinet had already approved the Food Security Bill on 18th December.
Talking to reporters outside Parliament on Tuesday, Food and Public Distribution Minister K. V. Thomas said the Bill would first be tabled in the Lok Sabha.Thomas said that Centre was developing a mechanism to share the additional cost on the Food Security Bill with the states.He expressed confidence that there would be no financial stress on implementing the Bill.
The Minister said that from the proposed 75 percent of the rural population covered under the Bill, at least 46 percent would be priority house holds from the weaker sections.From 50 percent of the urban population, at least 28 percent will be priority households.
Thomas said the Government would provide nutritional meals for the children while Rs 1,000 for six months to the pregnant women for six month.
