Parliament adjourned

A host of issues stalled the proceedings of the two Houses of Parliament on the second day on Tuesday. The issues ranged from price rise to demand for dismissal of Mayawati government and immediate execution of Ajmal Kasab. In the Lok Sabha, SP members trooped into the well seeking dismissal of the Mayawati government in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh for committing atrocities against farmers.

Members of BSP followed suit by carrying placards, blaming Congress-led government for the poor conditions of the peasantry. They demanded immediate passage of the Land Acquisition Bill. Shiv Sena MPs stormed the well raising slogans demanding that Mumbai terror attack culprit Ajmal Kasab and Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru be hanged immediately.

In the Rajya Sabha, it was trouble from the beginning. Opposition BJP members made a strong pitch in the house for the suspension of Question Hour to discuss price rise. The situation was no different when the two houses met after every adjournment. This led to their adjournment for the day.

The first working day of the Lok Sabha was adjourned on Monday after paying homage to sitting member and former Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal. The Rajya Sabha was rocked yesterday over the 2G issue.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal on Tuesday said that price rise and inflation will be discussed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. He told reporters that the government is hopeful that the House will work smoothly. The two Houses of Parliament were disturbed by the Opposition on the issue on Monday and Tuesday. He added that government is ready to discuss all the issues raised by the Opposition.
