Thai goes to polls on Sunday

Thailand goes to polls on Sunday since last year's violent protests that left over 90 people dead and hundreds injured. Former premier Thaksin Shinawatara's sister Yingluck of the opposition Pheu Thai Party has emerged as the front runner in what is seen to be a tightly-fought contest against incumbent Prime Minister and Democratic Party leader Abhisit Vijjajiva.

Shinawatra was deposed by a 2006 military coup and has fled the country to escape a jail sentence for corruption. The election will be Thailand's 26th since it became a democracy in 1932, and has experienced 18 military coups, the latest being in 2006.
