India and Germany in the Field of Renewable Energy

Dr. Farooq Abdullah Calls for Greater Cooperation Between India and Germany in the Field of Renewable Energy-Union Minister of New & Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, has appreciated the efforts of Germany in the field of Renewable Energy and has stressed on the need for greater cooperation between the two countries in this direction. He was speaking to German Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal German Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, Mrs. Katherina Reiche, who called on him here on Tuesday, 31st May, 2011. Mrs. Katherina Reiche is a member of the German delegation to India led by Chancellor of Germany, Mrs. Angela Merkel. While welcoming Mrs. Reiche in his office, Dr. Abdullah appreciated the large scale deployment of solar energy systems, especially on the rooftops of houses in Germany. He highlighted the problem of lack of electricity and access to energy in remote areas in India and the efforts undertaken to address the issue. He said there is a large scope for greater cooperation between the two countries in the field of developing renewable energy resources, technologies, manpower, etc.
Mrs. Katherina Reiche, while appreciating India’s efforts in the field of renewable energy welcomed Dr. Abdullah to the Inter-Solar Photovoltaic Fair in Germany which is scheduled to begin on June 8, 2011.
