Conference on Diaspora’s Role in Indian and Caribbean Partnership

Nksagar-Sagar Media Inc: Conference on Diaspora’s Role in Indian and Caribbean Partnership Building Concluded in Port of Spain - A two-day conference entitled “Building a New Partnership between India and the Caribbean-Role of the Diaspora” concluded on 1st June 2011 in Port of Spain. The conference was organized by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs. During the conference, a Business Forum in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry, Indo-Trinidad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Global Organization of People of Indian Origin was inaugurated by the Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs and Civil Aviation, Shri. Vayalar Ravi. Mr. Stephen Cadiz, Minister of Trade and Industry of Trinidad and Tobago was also present on the occasion. The forum was attended by a large business delegation from India and prominent businessmen from the Caribbean region. Issues like, information technology, education, pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, including hospital equipment, infrastructure, and hospitality were discussed in the forum.

As a part of the Conference an academic conference was also hosted by the University of West Indies. Shri. Vayalar Ravi and Dr. Surujrattan Rambachan, Foreign Minister of Trinidad and Tobago jointly inaugurated the conference. Various issues related to diaspora, such as, networking among the Caribbean diaspora and its role in development the partnerships between India and Caribbean, culture identity and roots in a globalizing world, building a knowledge economy and role of the youth were discussed in the academic conference. Both the Business Forum and the Academic Conference provided an opportunity for enhancing business, cultural and people to people links between India and the Caribbean diaspora.
