Shunglu Committee indicts Delhi LG for CWG loss

The Shunglu Committee probing the Commonwealth Games irregularities has reportedly blamed Delhi’s Lt Governor and senior officials of Delhi Development Authority(DDA) for excess payment to the games village developers. Khanna is ex-officio chairman of DDA. The Committee in its report on games village said DDA chairman, vice-chairman and two members of the authority were responsible for undue gains to the private developers.The committee in its 81-page second report submitted to the government recommended action against those responsible for favouring the developers.The committee estimated a loss to DDA of more than 134 crore rupees on purchase of flats at higher rates and another about 100 crores on account of unauthorised payments and carrying cost of unsold apartments.

VK Shunglu, former CAG was appointed by the Prime Minister’s Office to probe Commonwealth Games irregularities.He recommended detailed investigation into deliberate acts of omission and commission by the Lt. Governer and others.

Shunglu, however come under scrutiny for not giving an opportunity to the concerned for presenting their point of view.The report submitted to PMO was referred to DDA for detailed comments before it made public.Shunglu’s third report on Infrastructure projects was also referred to the concerned authorities for comments.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit parried questions on reports claiming that she has been blamed for irregularities in Commonwealth Games works by a probe committee.
"I have got it through media and I don't have any idea about the report," Dikshit told reporters in New Delhi on Thursday.Top officials indicated that the city government has not got any communication from the Prime Minister's Office on the V K Shunglu Committee report. "We don't have any idea about it," a senior official said. Media reports claimed that the Shunglu Committee looking into alleged irregularities in Games works has indicted Delhi Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna and Dikshit, among others, for delays and losses in projects.The panel submitted two reports -- one on the Games Village and the other on city's infrastructure development for the sports event -- that nails the role of Delhi government, its agencies and central agencies, according to media reports.The committee was appointed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in October last year, just a day after the mega event ended, to probe allegations of corruption, misappropriation of funds, irregularities and weaknesses in management of the Games.
