Belgian police kill 2 in raid on suspected Islamists Jan 16 Belgian police have killed two men who opened fire on them during one of about a dozen raids against an Islamist group that federal prosecutors said was about to launch terrorist attacks on a grand scale. Coming a week after Islamist gunmen killed 17 people in Paris, the incident heightened fears across Europe of young local Muslims returning radicalised from Syria. But prosecutor said the Belgian probe had been under way before the January 7 attack on French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. A third man was detained in the eastern city of Verviers, where police commandos ran into a hail of gunfire after trying to gain entry to an apartment above a town centre bakery. All three suspects were citizens of Belgium, which has one of the biggest concentrations of European Islamists fighting in Syria.

New Delhi, January 15, 2015 : The inaugural Cairn Juniors Hockey Cup got underway today at the Shivaji Stadium in the city with two under 14 games. The first game saw Govt. Boys Senior Secondary School, Saket take on Govt. Boys Senior Secondary School, Ghittorni. The boys from Ghittorni prevailed over their rivals in a closely contested game with a solitary goal by Ghanshyam in the 34 th  minute of the game. Both the sides created several chances but failed to find the back of the net, until Ghansyam, who came as a substitute in the 30 th  minute scored the winning goal. In the second match of the day Yogi Arvind School beat Anglo Arabic School 1-0, with skipper Sanjay Soni scoring the only goal. Yogi Arvind School dominated the game and were clearly the better side today. German federal security agencies  currently examining a possible threat of copycat attacks by local sympathizers to the last week’s attack in Paris that left 12 people dead, Die Welt newspaper reported Wednesday. Investigators registered suspicious Internet activity, such as open calls for terror attacks. According to a 25-page secret document, a copy of which was obtained by the newspaper, “The attack could also work as a spark for people living or staying in Germany who are predisposed to such acts.” However, German security agents have no “concrete intelligence or evidence” that any attack is in preparation.
