7 killed in Brazil as bus falls off overpass 3 04 2013 At least seven people died and six others were injured after a passenger bus fell off Rio de Janeiro’s Trompowsky overpass near Fundao Island. The vehicle fell at least 4 meters before hitting the ground. Nearly fifty firefighters, several ambulances and three helicopters were dispatched to the scene.

Cypriot finance minister Michalis Sarris resigns 3 04 2013 Cyprus finance minister Michalis Sarris has resigned. He was previously the head of one of the failed banks whose past management is now under investigation.Sarris stepped down on Tuesday, the same day a committee to investigate the collapse of the country’s banking industry was set up. Sarris, the president of the closed Laiki Bank until last August, said he resigned of his own free will to make the committee’s work easier.However some experts think he was driven to resign by discord with President Nicos Anastasiades. So With the Sarris resignation, a cabinet reshuffle is expected within a few days. Prasar Bharati launches major recruitment drive To meet the shortage of skilled personnel in key vacant positions, national broadcaster Prasar Bharati said it had launched a major recruitment drive in the first such exercise in fifteen years. Efforts are being made to improve the situation by taking steps such as setting up of the Recruitment Board, finalisation of recruitment regulations and filling the vacant posts, a statement released by Prasar Bharati said in New Delhi on Thursday. With these efforts made during the last one year, proposals for setting up of Prasar Bharati Recruitment Board and finalisation of recruitment regulations have been pushed through and are in the final stage of approval, the statement added. Prasar Bharati said 3,452 posts, which were identified as critical and approved by a Group of Ministers as far back as June, 2009 are now being filled up. Modi : New Lokayukta Bill introduced New Lokayukta Bill introduced in Gujarat Assembly The Narendra Modi government on Tuesday introduced a bill in the Gujarat Assembly which curtails the 'primacy' of the Chief Justice of the state High Court and the Governor in the matter of appointment of the Lokayukta. The Lokayukta Aayog Bill, 2013 proposes to give all the powers of the appointment to a selection committee headed by Chief Minister and wants state Governor to act on the recommendations of this committee. The new Bill comes after the state government lost a bitter fight legally and politically when Governor Kamla Beniwal, bypassing the state government, appointed Justice R A Mehta as the state Lokayukta which was upheld by the High Court as well as Supreme Court in January this year.
